Now that they’ve been given the go-ahead as a permanent allotment site (following a successful trial period), there is a half plot vacant for a new allotmenteer/s/family to join in!

The trial period has been a resounding success, with a bounty of fresh fruit and vegetables grown on our doorstep (and still in production!). Both experienced allotmenteers/ gardeners and those new to both have enjoyed learning and growing on this brand new allotment site! The allotments have provided a welcome haven away from everything else in 2020, and everyone who started (back at the beginning of lockdown) is continuing!

There are 10 plots altogether, with 6 full size plots and 4 plots that have been halved/shared. Two full sized plots (that are shared) are relocating to higher/drier ground, next to plot 10 (furthest from the Barbour Hall end). It is one of these half plots that is now available.

A few things of note:

  • The site is, and will continue to be organic; Firth Farms have been organic for over 22 years
  • Allotment holders must have very close ties with Caerlaverock
  • The half size plots are roughly 50 sq yds (5 x 10yds)
  • An Allotment Association is being set up and rent of each half plot will be around £15 a year, going towards the allotment fund

To keep it fair to all, please email your note of interest to: caerlaverockcommunity@gmail.com
as it will be on a first come, first served basis.  After this, a waiting list will be formed.

Please share with anyone you think might be interested.

…and if you haven’t already, please send your fruit n veg inspired recipes to sue_greig@yahoo.co.uk for the fundraising Caerlaverock Allotment Cookbook!
