The new site manager at WWT Caerlaverock, David Pickett, has been in touch to introduce himself and the new team to the Caerlaverock community. Whilst there have been many changes, David is keen to welcome everyone to the WWT – time to visit whilst the geese are still here!

David Pickett here – I am writing as the new Site Manager at WWT Caerlaverock to introduce myself and the new team we have at the Wetland Centre. Over the last 12 months we have been going through a bit of turmoil here with staff changes, the pandemic and bird flu but we now have a new team coming together and starting to get the site back on its feet. Just to introduce the team we have:

Kerry Precious – Admin. Officer – Kerry is a Glencaple resident, the glue that holds the whole operation together and our longest serving team member having been here for 11 months.

Emily MacAllister – Warden – Emily is our second longest serving team member having come here from working at Rutland Water and is leading on our monitoring work.

Jake Goodwin – Warden – Jake only started just a couple of months ago but has quickly got stuck in and is organising our team of volunteers on site.

Sophie Henderson – Trading Assistant – Sophie is the first person you will meet if you visiting the Wetland centre as she is based in the visitor centre and she has been busy getting the café starting to function again having only started 3 months ago.

Sandy Finocchio-Daniels – Practical placement – Sandy is with us for a year as a placement student and brings a whirlwind of enthusiasm and joy to the proceedings.

Myself – David Pickett – Site Manager – I have been around a bit, having worked on a number of different nature reserves but 4 months in am loving living and working in such the stunning, wildlife-rich area of Caerlaverock.  

We are working hard to fill a few more vacancies so new faces should be appearing over the next few months. So do come down and introduce yourselves. With the geese with us for not much more than a month then this is a good time to come down for your goose fix before they head north for the summer.
