BARBOUR HALL COMMITTEE MINUTES    7.11.18

  1. SOUP SOCIAL

Thanks to everyone involved for their help. There was an excellent turnout and a positive buzz at the event. Hopefully we can get some more local elderly residents to the next event. It was decided to keep the entrance fee at £1 and allow entrants to make a donation if they wish to pay more. The next event takes place on 10.1.19. from 12.00-2.00pm.  Soup will be provided by A Cochrane, M Wilson and C Haining; traybakes will be provided by A Wilson and S Eccleston. The event will be advertised on the community website (GD to organise) and a book swap will be incorporated into the event. The success of the event demonstrates that there is a desire in the community to use the hall if the right events are put on.

  1. BADMINTON

Thanks to R Wilson for purchasing nets and rackets; the previous net has gone missing. A group of people from the local lifeboat have enquired about having a badminton evening. S Eccleston to organise.

  1. APPLICATIONS FOR FUNDING

J Anderson has agreed to join the group. The first meeting will take place week beginning 19th November.

  1. COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS GET TOGETHER

The Christmas event takes place on Saturday 1st December between 10.00-11.30. The entrance fee will be £2 for adults and 50p for children entitling payees to a drink and a mince pie/piece of shortbread. The following arrangements in preparation for the event were made.

  • Tables: The primary School will not be charged for their tables; Innes will donate a reindeer for his table. Saint Joseph’s College Young Enterprise team will be asked if they want to hire a table. We will have bric-a-brac and a home baking tables. The hall will be open on Friday 30th November between 12.00-2.00pm and 6.00-8.00pm to take donations. Donations can also be brought along on the morning of the event. Committee members will all contribute home baking. A few tables will be available to outside agencies or individuals at a cost of £10. All of the above will be advertised on the flyer and community website.

  • L Crawford will liaise with GD to create a flyer.

  • Raffle: C Haining has enough raffle tickets. Committee members will contribute £6 each to purchase a hamper as the main prize; C Johnston to organise the purchase of this.

  • G Donnelly and J Donnelly will check the drink stocks and determine what else needs to be purchased. J Donnelly will purchase the comestibles (60 Aldi mince pies, 60 Lidl packets of shortbread, milk, Haribo mini bags, bin bags, Tea Bags? And whatever else is required).

  • S Eccleston will arrange the children’s stall and bring along CDs for the Christmas music (set up at the doorway for a festive entrance).

  • J Donnelly and S Eccleston to arrange the to arrange the fairy lights.

  • Tables will be decorated with centrepieces and table cloths.

  • We will approach the school to see if the children will come along and sing some carols.

  • Christmas decorations are in hand.

The next meeting of the group will take place on 27th November at 8.00pm.
