A big thank you to the local volunteers who delivered the physical/paper letters very quickly to ensure that everyone in the community is aware of what is happening. This information can now be shared with others whom it may affect.

Dear Resident / Business Owner,
British Cycling National Time-Trial Championships: Thursday 23 June 2022
British Cycling’s National Road Championships are to take place in Dumfries and Galloway from 23 – 26 June 2022. The first competitions of the Championships are the Time-Trials, which take place on Thursday 23 June. The Council is working in partnership with British Cycling, the National Governing Body of the sport, to deliver the Championships, and is providing the enclosed information to local businesses and residents to ensure you as a community are aware of all of the necessary details of the event.
The Time-Trials comprise four separate competitions throughout the day, which require road closures around the circuit to ensure the competition is fair and safe for all competitors and others around the area. The competition categories are Elite Women, Under- 23 Women, Elite Men and Under 23 Men.
The race circuit is below;
The B725 (and the C12n Bankend Road) is subject to a full road closure notice from 8:30am to 7pm on Thursday 23 June. However, whilst this road closure timing is being advertised to the general public, British Cycling and the Council are keen to make local residents and businesses along the circuit aware of periods when the road will be opened for essential access.
There is full access to the road until 9:30am and the road is scheduled to re-open at 6:30pm.
The two roads are also subject to Parking Suspensions from 10pm on Wednesday 22 June to 11pm on Thursday 23 June. Please ensure that your car or vehicle is not parked on these roads from 10pm on Wednesday 22 June until the roads re-open immediately after the Time Trials.
The table below shows the periods when the road is open for essential access to local residents and businesses.
It is vitally important to the safety of the competing cyclists that any local resident or business that uses the road during these periods completes their journey within the allotted times.
If you have a critical access requirement outside of these periods, for example social care visits, to pick up ill children from school, a time-critical business delivery or farm emergency please contact the Event Control Room on

and we will work with you to identify a solution for access through the B725 road closure.
Please note this number will only be monitored on the day of the event, and for advance enquiries you should contact the Council at the email listed below.
Dumfries and Galloway Council will be bringing forward the bin collections on Thursday 23 June to 7am – 9:30am along the route – so do please put your bins out the evening before and bring them in as soon as possible once they have been emptied.
We have confirmed essential access times with Caerlaverock Primary School and made arrangements for free after-school activity to be delivered by our Active Schools team on school premises at the end of the school day, this ensure pupils are catered for until they can be collected during the essential access time stated above. The school will also issue direct communication to parents to further explain arrangements. Furthermore, those secondary school pupils returning by bus will be able to return home as normal during this essential access time.
Brownhall Primary will operate as normal but please note the road closure times will mean no vehicle access outside the school at the end of the school day. Pupils will be safely escorted over the Glencaple Road by school crossing patrols for collection by family members.
At the time of going to press the Council is finalising with the NHS Dumfries and Galloway the use of Mountainhall NHS car parks for Time Trials spectators. Do please check the British Cycling website for up-to-date information on spectator parking and all other Time Trial news.
We received your clear feedback at our public information events that earlier communication and notification of the event and road closure programme was desired. Whilst there were external factors that did influence our timing we apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause and hope that the mitigations being put in place will enable your communities to maintain all essential activity during the day of Time Trial. Furthermore, we will ensure your feedback informs the practice for how we support the delivery of any future major sporting events.
On the 23 June we hope to show the global audience watching the event on television and through live streams what a beautiful part of the world we all live in and to promote your community and our region as a destination of choice that can successfully host major sporting events.
