With many thanks to the community member who forwarded us this information via Rural Watch Scotland. With the astronomical rises in the cost of fuel, it will be prudent for us all to be aware and take precautions:
Police are making inquiries into a series of thefts across the area in recent days. Heating oil and diesel has been stolen from a garden in Stranraer and from vehicles carrying out works in the Galloway Forest over the weekend of 20th May. A Green Honda C50 Quad was also stolen from a farm in the Moffat area on Monday 23rd May.
Thefts of this nature are prevalent across the country. Fuel and Quads are a valuable commodity to thieves and this trend is likely to continue.
Please consider security measures where you can, such as using security lighting, lock storage tanks, monitor fuel levels in storage tanks and store your quads out of sight and separate from keys.
If you have any information in relation to the thefts contact police on 101. Please report any suspicious activity to police or anonymously via Crime Stoppers 0800 555 111.
If you see any information that could be helpful to share with the community, please send it to us at caerlaverockcommunity@gmail.com or via our Facebook page. You don’t have to be named if you’d rather not – just let us know.
