With many thanks to PC Jac Irving for getting in touch with this wonderful story, and some photos:

“Today was the epitome of community and I was so proud to be able to say “I’m local!”

Charities and locals came together to help Buddies complete a three day cycle challenge from Collin to Glencaple. Buddies members have additional needs and you can learn about the charity here

http://www.buddiesdumfries.co.uk/projects.html

Some of the Buddies members live in Glencaple so this really was a community event made all the better by everyone coming together for such wonderful people and making this event a success

Norman Brown stored the bikes and opened his kitchen and toilet for anyone who needed a pit stop. Blood Bikers lead the front of the event, whilst I made sure those at the back were safe. Alanna and her team at The Boathouse provided a wonderful array of refreshments at the finish line and Robbie Cowan even donned an apron to help make sure all the riders were refreshed after cycling in that heat! All of Caerlaverock Primary walked down to show their support and test the sandwiches. Passerby’s waves and cheered as the Buddies arrived in Glencaple.

It’s days like this that really show what a special place we live in. Thank you!”

John Henry also sent us some fab photos of the event:

John explained that “After setting off we were making good progress so detoured into the castle tea room before reaching Glencaple.”

Following the event, John reported that there were, “Some tired legs but 😊 faces” – that’s what it’s all about!

…and didn’t they have a fantastic day for it!

If you have an event coming up, let us know about it so that we can let the community know! caerlaverockcommunity@gmail.com
