Margaret Hamilton lives in North Ayrshire, but has strong ties to the Dumfries area through her mother’s folks. She has been in touch, with this insight into the Edgars of Glenhowan:

Today I came across your website and a photo of the Golden Jubilee of the Caerlaverock/ Glencaple Women’s Guild. Included in the photo was Agnes Edgar (centre right) aged 92 at the time. I noticed that her sister, Jean Edgar was also in the photo on the far right. The newspaper cutting [below] reminded me of one which I inherited from my mother which shows the three Edgar sisters of Glenhowan. My mother has scribbled ‘95’ above the photo of Agnes so it must have been taken three years after the Golden Jubilee photo.

My mother’s grandmother and my great grandmother was Mary Edgar, born at Glenhowan in 1867 to John Edgar and Jessie McKenzie. What I’m not sure about is the exact relationship between Mary Edgar and the three sisters. I’m guessing that they could have been her nieces.”

Can anyone help Margaret – what was the relationship between Mary Edgar and the three sisters?
