The Boathouse, Glencaple (on the Quay) are offering a free cuppa to anyone who collects and brings in a bucket of rubbish collected from the shoreline! (Buckets are available at the counter)

Obviously it would be better if people didn’t dump their waste in the first place, but until that day comes, lets get collecting, recycling and drinking!

Plastic bottles are taken for recycling by the council in our local centres at Lincluden and Locharmoss – shampoo type bottles and household cleaning bottles as well as drinks and milk bottles. The Boathouse will sort and recycle the rubbish brought to them.
Here’s a wee list of the things we can recycle locally:

  • Cardboard and books
  • Paper
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Electrical appliances
  • Televisions and monitors
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Household batteries
  • Fluorescent tubes and low energy light bulbs
  • Paint – find out how to prepare paint for disposal
  • Green waste
  • Soil and rubble
  • Wood
  • Textiles, clothing and shoes
  • Metal cans, tins and clean aluminium foil
  • Scrap metal
  • Plastic bottles
  • Car batteries
  • Gas bottles
    As well as non-recyclable waste.

There has been a lot of publicity recently regarding the problem plastic poses to the future of the planet, so there really is no excuse for dumping any kind of rubbish, and now a new local incentive (if you need one) to pick it up!

The Boathouse also sell Ecover washing products, to refill, reusing your bottle, rather than buying another. Their Ecover washing up liquid is sold in bottles that are made from recycled plastic.
