A ‘toe in the water’ request for your haaf netting info…
A Visual Anthropology MA student has been in touch as he is going to be producing a 30 minute documentary film about the culture, heritage and customs of Haaf Netting between June and August 2020! What an opportunity to contribute!
Putting out some early feelers, he is wondering if there are any participants willing to be interviewed and filmed about haaf netting during the summer months next year?
He is also very interested in finding traditional songs, poems, old stories and customs (superstitions etc) connected with the practice.
The resulting film is intended to cover the people who practice haaf netting, from the youngest to the oldest, the reasons why people still use this form of fishing, the threats to haaf netting and the culture and heritage of the community. He will also be trying to cover the Annan as well as the Nith, Eden and Lune.
Do you know anyone who might have some information, or be willing to contribute? Please pass this on!
If this sounds up your street (or down your river) do comment below, or send us your contact details and we can pass them on.
If you have any information, traditional songs, poems, old stories/ customs and superstitions etc., get in touch and we can forward them too!
Many thanks in advance.
