With many thanks to David Gilbert who attended a recent Zoom meeting to find out information for the community about the new council recycling scheme, and shared this information with us. The video is worth a watch to fill you in with the details:

This video, along with the transcript and a signed version can be found on this link:   https://www.dumgal.gov.uk/article/21450/Watch-Now-Your-Waste-Service-is-Changing

A few additional notes that David took from it all:

Information distributed early April

Bins delivered from 19 April two 240 litre

Flats can have hessian sacks or smaller bins available but households should stick to 240L to start with

Service commences in early May usual collection days

Each bin collected every 4 weeks. Current black bin collected every two weeks. So bins alternate each four week period eg. plastics, household waste, paper and card, household waste etc

Wash and squash plastics/cans to reduce space

Clean paper and card only so no pizza boxes! Squash boxes

Each bin lid will be notched differently for anyone with sight impairment

The scheme is not compulsory and you can opt out but not encouraged. No penalties imposed in Scotland so if elderly have difficulty, for example they won’t be pressurised

No glass collection due to the bottle deposit scheme in 2022.

Will be 100 glass recycling centres and local communities can make a case for one in their area.

Green garden waste in black bin as before

If you have issues or need help just ask the Council Waste Service
