With many thanks to Alison Robertson who has been collating all the comments left by recent motorhome visitors to Glencaple Quay and Castle Corner – we thought you’d like to see them too (all are shared with permission). Alison has also forwarded relevant comments to the local businesses.
Thank you. Lovely spot. Good meal at pub.
Great facility, nice and quiet with lovely walk to castle. Didn’t use
facilities as not needed. Thank you.
A very lovely place to stay for a night. The Boathouse is a
fabulous place to eat and the antique shop was brilliant. We
bought a couple of nice things. We paid online.
Thank you for providing this wonderful area to park. We came
across it whilst exploring the area. It would be great if more
places in the UK followed your example.
A lovely stop over at a very beautiful spot on our way back to
Shropshire from the Highlands (a much needed break). Thanks.
Excellent location, quiet, all other vans here respectful. 2 days of
fine sunny weather / hot. Local path network in woods great,
and path across merse. Will visit again, maybe combined with
Glencaple Quay? Stopped here at start of month-long visit to
Scotland’s west coast. Hope you get toilet waste unblocked
soon.
Front Row. Brilliant! Had lovely chat with your cleaning lady.
What a great place.
Thank you for providing this excellent facility.
Thank you for providing this lovely, scenic and clean stopover
place. We had a great meal & drinks in the Nith Hotel. It would
be helpful if it was made clear if the outside tap water is for
drinking. Very cross to see a pile of fresh dog poo on the grass.
Sad how some tourists have to spoil a lovely place ☹. Perhaps
put up some very explicit signs about no dog mess?
To be honest we would have donated £10 if there were facilities
to empty grey waste & Elsan.
Finding this beautiful spot was a very happy accident! Peaceful
location surrounded in nature. Thank you.
Thank you for providing this wonderful area to park. We came
across it whilst exploring the area. It would be great if more
places in the UK followed your example.
We enjoyed night one so much we stayed another! Arrived
yesterday in horizontal rain – it is Scotland after all – but today
it’s dry and some sun. Thank you again for providing this facility.
Thank you for a lovely stay. Would it be possible to have the
water facility back?
Water tap was not accessible. Maybe mark out 5 spaces so
people park accordingly. Lovely place to stay.
Perfect place for overnight. Lovely meal at the Nith Hotel.
Chatted with locals – very friendly. Will be back soon. Thank
you!! Will visit the castle now
Thank you. Lovely spot. Good meal at pub.
Thank you so much for providing this place to stop, refill water
and empty loo – much appreciated.
I just love the woodland and wildlife. Well done. Thank you.
Great place to stay. Lots of space, picnic area and ideal for a
morning walk with the sun rising. We will be back for sure.
We are touring round the Dumfries and Galloway area and we
were very pleased to find this site with its amenities and lovely
woodland walks and castle. Absolutely sunning scenery and very
friendly locals. Well worth the fee.
Great stop, great to know it exists. We have stopped here before
so it’s nice to come back. Hope your fundraising goes well. It’s a
shame that not everyone follows the rules though – spoils it for
the honest ones!!
Great stay with views. £10 suggested donation a bit high and
think that there would be a lot of “no payers”. £5 would be more
realistic. Today 7 vans have stayed on site all day and another
has arrived at 1830 (as I am writing this). I would survey how
many people actually pay anything. Maybe use the hotel to issue
passes for parking. All 8 vans were still here at 0900. We are
planning to leave the site at 1000. The stay was quiet. But social
distancing between vans was not observed.
It’s a fantastic facility, thanks very much for providing it.
Thank you so much for providing this lovely space for weary
travellers
We were in early then became concerned about the number of
vans that followed, parking far too close to vans already in. Is
there a limit to numbers?? 17 vans. Good to see places like this
being used to help the local community.
Great facilities and friendly staff at The Boathouse. 10/10.
An amazing overnight spot with fabulous views. Had drinks at
nibbles in The Boathouse which was lovely. Donna was so nice
and helpful. Even bought a birthday present for our daughter.
We love that you welcome motorhomers and will definitely be
back. Thank you! Would suggest the 5 bays being marked MH,
and white lines to prevent anyone taking up 2 spaces.
Many thanks for a wonderful overnight. (I apologise for the
campers that use your car parking area! Unfortunate but “CARS
ONLY” painting may help?
Lovely peaceful area, nice walk to Castle through forest. Very
sheltered site. No grey waste, no recycle bin. But overall very
good and worth £10 donation.
Only came to empty cassette and get fresh water. Thank you so
much.
From Sanquhar originally, just great to revisit the area I
remember so fondly.
Please could the toilets be left open all night?
It would be good if the toilets were open a bit later eg 10 pm.
Very peaceful and relaxing. I’ll definitely be back.
It was a lovely spot, all the locals and neighbours were very welcoming, the hotel and boathouse facilities were great. The toilets are great and the lady cleaning them was really helpful. A sign above the water tap would be useful as we were not aware of it.
Nice place for a quiet night stay.
Many thanks for creating & maintaining this wonderful facility. It
is perfect. We noticed some people just coming to empty / fill up
(maybe from Glencaple). Suggest min charge for this. £5?
Please continue your great work & don’t be disheartened if
anyone abuses the system! Lovely area. Can’t believe we
haven’t stayed here before. Fab food @ Boathouse and the staff
were really friendly & welcoming. Unfortunately the “Quay” was
full (5 vans) but we will try again sometime & enjoy the views.
We wish we had such lovely sites in England.
Lovely peaceful spot. We cannot thank you enough
Thank you so much for providing these facilities. Absolutely
loved it here, as did my dog! (£5 donation as I’m a solo traveller).
PS It was so lovely here that I stayed for another night! Thank
you!
What a privilege to be offered the opportunity to rest awhile
here. To listen to nature and to watch the tides. Thank you. (The
only fly in the ointment was the 2 carloads of young people
playing football, but they left at 10pm). We are members of
CAMpRA – Campaign for Real Aires UK – and Motorhomes and
Caravans Against Litter. Responsible Motorhomers “leave only
footprints!” (and pawprints in the case of our cat, who has loved
walking on his lead here too).
Great place to stay overnight. Pity there are no grey water drains
or black waste facilities.
We arrived at 7:30 and wanted to spend some time in the hotel
bar – felt a bit unsure whether this was OK so checked in the bar
and they said fine (parked in car spots although car park only half
full). Thanks for giving us a safe, clean space to stay!
Lovely and welcoming village. Thank you for providing the
opportunity to stay on the quay and support the community.
Thanks.
Fantastic meal! Super friendly staff at the Nith Hotel! Thank you.
Wow! Thanks Alison. Really interesting to hear what visitors to the Quay think. Huge amount of work to write this all up.
