Along with encouraging motorhomers to leave a donation (the Caerlaverock Community Association maintenance, projects and everything we do are solely funded through Motorhome donations), it is good to hear feedback from those who enjoyed their stay, as well as to hear some suggestions for improvements. It’s always interesting to hear from visitors!
Relevant comments have been passed on to Ruby, Vintage on the Nith, the Nith Hotel and The Boathouse too. (70 people altogether commented that they had visited these ‘facilities’ as well as Caerlaverock Castle and WWT Caerlaverock [apologies to Ruby who doesn’t (but should) have her own website/ Facebook page!].
A big thank you to Alison Robertson for collating and typing up all the data, information and comments!
Other places visited (or not!) include:
- Just passing through
- We didn’t visit this time as we were just doing a quick stopover
- Caerlaverock Parish Church
- Allotments (bought some veg)
- Walked the river path
- Cycle route 7
- Walk
- Powfoot Hotel (fab meal)
- Glencaple village
- Walked along the river bank
- Walked the woodland and wetland

“So relieved to find this place, we’d been driving round with no
luck for ages! Great that you’re doing this, thanks!”
“Lovely quiet spot to park”
“Beautiful setting and friendly welcome. Wish there were more such places for motorhomes to stop for a night or two.”
“Great area, lovely scenery. Clean toilets and very quiet!”
“Lovely spot. What a gem. Normally stop for a break at The Boathouse but had to leave at 8 am. PS thank you for welcoming motorhomes.”
“Brilliant destination & restaurant [Nith Hotel]. Sorry, only cash we had on us”
“Enjoyed our stay. Friendly people. Lovely location. A recycling bin for plastic bottles etc would be good.”
“A wonderful spot. Thank you for setting up this Aire and allowing us to stay in your town. We do think that £10 per night is a bit excessive. We have been motorhoming for 20 years now and covered most of Europe and all the UK so have a fairly good idea of the “going rate”. With water and toilet emptying facilities £10 would be reasonable. BUT we enjoyed our stay and will return”
“Enjoyable stay!! Thank you.”
“Just a fabulous stopover. Beautiful scenery. Made our holiday special. Thank you so much.”
“Went for a walk and sat and enjoyed the beautiful view. Perfect place to wake up. Thank you.”

“Lovely stopover, thank you. Superb sunset as well.”
“We would have paid more if we could have filled van with water, but as a basic overnight stay it’s fine.”
“Thank you so much for this site. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe, and the use of your facilities was an added bonus. If you get the chance, please thank the staff at The Boathouse for me. Fantastic food and a very warm welcome!”
“Thank you very much. So refreshing to see this type of facility in the UK. Spread the word please.”
“Pleased to see water and waste disposal. Thank you.”
“Thanks for your efforts and foresight in providing the facilities. More places should be as welcoming and authorities not afraid of opening up.”
