Dumfries and Galloway College has come together with Third Sector Dumfries & Galloway to support individuals and organisations in the region to understand the impact of mental health on everyday lives, work and relationships.

The aim is to deliver these courses out in the community to makethem more accessible and to help communities become moreconfident to deal with mental health issues so there are fewersituations in their communities that develop into a crisis.

With that in mind we are offering FULLY FUNDED mental health first aid training!

There are two different courses on offer, please see details below. Once you have decided which course you wish to attend, or wish your team to attend, please email shortcourses@dumgal.ac.uk . Please state that you wish to enroll into one of the courses offered in partnership with Third Sector.

1. Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health

This ½ day course is aimed at providing learners with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions and the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost the person towards professional help.

Course Syllabus

A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered
including:

➢ What is First Aid for mental health?
➢ Identifying mental health conditions
➢ Providing advice and starting a conversation
➢ Stress
➢ Mental health conditions

You will complete practical and multiple-choice assessment. On successful completion, a level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health will be issued and is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement.

There are practical activities on this course, please wear suitable clothing and footwear.

2. First Aid for Mental Health

This 1-day course is aimed at providing learners with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions and the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost the person towards professional help. It also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol and incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan, along with providing ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within the workplace.

Course Syllabus

A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:

➢ What is First Aid for mental health?
➢ Identifying mental health conditions
➢ Providing advice and starting a conversation
➢ Stress
➢ Mental health conditions
➢ Drugs and Alcohol
➢ First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan
➢ First Aid for Mental Health in the Workplace

You will complete practical and multiple-choice assessment. On successful completion, a level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health will be issued and is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement.
