If you’re looking to get together with other fellas from the Caerlaverock area then this is the perfect club for you!
Location: Hutton Hall, Bankend.
Men’s Carpet Bowls
When? Every Thursday at 8:00pm, until the games are finished! Runs seasonally, beginning when the clocks fall back in Autumn. Take a look at our calendar for firm dates.
Where? Hutton Hall, Bankend
Who? Men of all ages and abilities. Folk come from all over Caerlaverock, from Bankend and outwith.
What do I need? Nothing – all the equipment is available in the hall for you to use.
How much does it cost? £56.00 per season – that averages at around £2.60 per session, but members sign up for a full season.
What happens? With experienced folk running the group and guiding you through the rules, you are in safe hands. A carpet, marked with chalk circles around a tee, is fastened to a specially designed board. At one end is a guide for playing out of (two angled wooden markers and a metal hoop, through which the bowl must pass), and the bowl is delivered by the player from a kneeling position. A lot like curling in principle, your bowls should end up as close to the tee (at the centre of the chalk-marked circles) as possible. The bowls are not biased, rather the board beneath the carpet is, angling them back in towards the centre section.
What do the current club members say?
“I come for the social aspect, the cameraderie.”
“I’ve been coming for many years – some seasons there are just a few of us, sometimes we have twenty or more – but we enjoy it anyhow.”
“It’s a chance for the men folk to catch up, a way for us to get together and do something as a group.”
