Fiona Sodha got in touch with us, as something caught her eye in the photo above (posted as part of a collection of pictures back in February 2019).
Whilst searching for information about the Crosbie family in the Caerlaverock area, her beady eye caught the description under the photo,
“The picture was handed in by W Crosbie, 18 Wellington Street, Glencaple”.
Unfortunately there are no further clues (newspaper date etc). But we were very impressed by Fiona’s fine-honed research skills, as it is the fifth photo on this post!
To explain, Fiona told us that:
For the past six plus years, my mother and I have been trying to trace her family on her father’s side with the name of Crosbie. We stayed at Bankend a couple of years ago and spent a very happy time in the churchyard viewing all the Crosbie’s buried there. We were also able to see Byres Farm (where the family lived in the 1800’s) & talk to the current residents.
However, it is the current Crosbie family we should really love to track down.
My grandfather left Scotland as a young man and only returned once, when his mother was very ill. He always refused to talk about his family. As his only child, my mother was desperate to know if she had cousins on the Crosbie side. My mother is now 85 yrs old and time is running out to find any cousins or their children.
Can anyone help with any details of W. Crosbie, who handed in the photo? Or any of his relatives? ‘Who knows’, says Fiona, ‘they may be a relative!’
It is the current Crosbie family Fiona would really love to track down.
In particular, we are searching for any information the family of John & Georgina Crosbie (nee Gilbertson) married in 1892 in Applegarth.
The couple had five children: William, Adam, Agnes, James and Andrew. Andrew, born in 1902, was my grandfather, but we know almost nothing about his siblings and nothing about their children and grandchildren.

Moreen W Crosbie daughter still lives at 18 Wellington Street now Mrs Johnstone And Georgia Currie was a Crosbie i think she is a cousin of Mrs Johnstone Mrs Currie stays in Great. Eastern Drive used to stay in Kenmare Houe on Wellington Steet
William Crosbie ( my Dad ) is standing beside the teacher, boy with the open necked shirt. He was the son of David and Janet Crosbie, born on the 22nd May 1912 at Woodlands Farm Caerlaverock. Dad’s brother David ( who is Georgia Curries Dad) lived in Kenmare House . I will have a blether with Georgia and see what else we can come up with.
