With thanks to Nicola Welch, who got in touch with us a wee while ago, via our Facebook Page. Can you help her with a photo of Jeannie?
“Hello,
I am hoping that someone in your community might be able to help me in my family history quest for a photograph.
My husband’s Granny was Jeanie Marie Kirkpatrick Johnstone born in Caerlaverock in 1888.  She was the only child born to Joseph James Johnstone  and Mary Agnes Hyslop.  The 1891 census shows the family living at Howmains Farm, Glencaple. Joseph was a Farmer.
By 1901 the family had moved to Plymouth and sometime after, Joseph travelled alone to South Africa where he died in 1907.
During WW1 Jeanie, had a romance with an Australian soldier and gave birth to a son who was immediately given up for adoption.
Although we have always known of Jeanie’s name we have no photograph of her and I wonder if there are still family members living in and around Caerlaverock who just might have an old photograph hidden away somewhere and who would be happy to share it with our family.
Jeanie went on to marry Alexander Deans Hutchison and moved back to Scotland where she lived in Cambuslang and then Skelmorlie.  She died in 1970.
Thank you in anticipation.”
