So much local information is coming regarding changes due to Coronavirus (mostly via Facebook). Thank you to everyone for helping to keep us up to date!

We will try to summarise information here every so often, to keep it in one place – please share this with local people, especially those who may not be online/ on Facebook. This affects us all.

(This may be the time to join us on Facebook to find out what people are sharing – specifically on the CCA Facebook page and the associated Isolation Support Group.)

Latest Updates: Thank you again to everybody who has shared this info!

CAERLAVEROCK COMMUNITY ISOLATION SUPPORT GROUP

We have set up an (online, virus-free) group for locals to support locals through this difficult time.

All the info on >>> THIS PAGE <<<

GUIDELINES FOR HELPING OTHERS

Thanks to those who helped create these guidelines – they are for anybody who has registered their help on the Isolations Support Group, and may be asked to assist others. If you think of anything obvious please add!!
(If you haven’t registered to volunteer, please fill in this form:
http://bit.ly/caerlaverockvolunteer or if you want to be put on the list in case you need help yourself, just tell us your details!)
GUIDELINES….
To enable you to provide help in an efficient, safe and friendly way, we will give you the details of people who need help, and what kind of help they need.
It may just be a prompt to check-in or they may request shopping/ prescription pick up etc.
We will give you contact details, and a password (tell them the password asap, so they don’t have to ask, and they know you are genuine). We then hand over to you. Let us know if there is something we should add.
Follow current government guidelines as to social distancing and cleanliness.
Wash hands before contacts or use sanitiser (if you can get it!) Our hands are the main agents of infection – watch what you touch.
Don’t go into houses unless there is no other option (if an item is too heavy)
Keep 2 metres / 6 feet away, explain this is to keep you both safe.
Get receipts – deal with money sensibly
Cash will be easiest, but it is possible that only cards can be used. Keep records of what you do and what you spend.
Orders may be best taken over the phone. Check if alternatives are acceptable due to shortages.
Bear in mind any allergies – ask.
Keep an ear out for anybody in difficulty – there may be the ability of local organisations to have a fund available for those that have cash problems for example.
This is just the beginning, we don’t know how things will develop, but a friendly face and listening ear will be welcome.
If you, or anyone in your household show any symptoms of any illness, leave it to others to help. You don’t want to deliver anything extra with the messages!
If you find you are a bit stretched with people’s needs, others can help, so please ask!

COUNCIL CLOSURES

From the Council: In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, and following Public Health advice in regard to reducing social contact, we will be closing the following Council operated facilities with effect from 19 March until further notice.

  • Leisure Facilities and Swimming Pools
  • Museums, Galleries and Cinemas
  • Libraries (the community outreach service will continue to operate)
  • Public Conveniences
  • Public Halls
  • Caravan Parks

All relevant Direct Debit membership fees in relation to any of the above activities will be automatically frozen for the duration of this closure (we will do this for you automatically, you do not need to do anything).

We recognise the importance of protecting our most vulnerable people and we will work to ensure we maintain our Welfare, Housing, Homelessness and Benefits Advice Services. This will include working with third sector partners to ensure we maintain public access to food parcels.  The Registration Service (Births, Deaths and Marriages) will continue to operate in each area by appointment as normal by telephoning the Council’s Contact Centre 030 33 33 3000.

The importance of maintaining our Council’s household waste collection service and the continued operation of household waste recycling centres is fully recognised and we are making arrangements to ensure we can maintain business as usual as far as possible.

These are unprecedented and challenging times and we are working across Dumfries and Galloway to manage and respond to the situation as it develops, following official advice.

The safety and wellbeing of our customers, communities and staff is paramount.  Therefore all of these arrangements will be closely monitored and subject to ongoing review as we respond to the available advice from Public Health, Scottish Government and other partners.  Any changes will be advised accordingly.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

SUPPORT WIDER COMMUNITY

We’ve been sent some information for anybody wanting to help the wider D&G community.

Alan Hall has told us: “I just wanted to contact you to say that Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway are joining or following all the local help groups/pages being set up in response to the current crisis. We have a dedicated member of staff that will be following conversations on all the pages and will post as Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway if there is anything we can specifically advise on or help with – i.e. a route for information or assistance. We have a central volunteer sign up form for the region available at: http://thirdsectordumgal.org.uk/volunteer-to-help-during-coronavirus-crisis/ that you can share if you wish. Our database will then match up volunteers with opportunities in different area.”

HELP FOR CARERS:

from Dumfries and Galloway Carers Centre:

Carers Emergency Planning Tool

For Carers to have an Emergency Plan is a good idea at any time but even more so at the moment.

We have a plan that can be completed and kept in case it is needed. The information below gives you an idea of what to think about. If you would like a copy of the plan to complete at home please let us know by phoning 01387 248600 or send us a private message on here. A copy can be posted or emailed to you.

CARERS EMERGENCY PLAN:

USEFUL INFORMATION
 Decide where you want to keep your emergency plan and let the emergency
contacts know where to find it. You may wish to provide them with a copy.
 Make sure that you have the phone number of all relevant organisations on your mobile phone, in case you need to contact them. It would be useful to add these numbers to the Contact List in your Emergency Plan too.
 Store at least one emergency contact number in your mobile phone. List this under ICE. This stands for ‘In Case of Emergency’ and emergency service staff know to look for it.
 If you care for more than one person- a plan should be completed for each person.
 If you have a pet, make sure that the emergency contacts have details about how to look after them. You may want to make a separate list about this.
 If there is a young person providing care in your family, make sure that school knows about this.
 If a young person is one of your emergency contacts, make sure that the school is aware of this.
 If you have no-one to nominate as an emergency contact, talk this through with your carer support organisation. They will be able to help you identify where to find help.
If you require any further information please contact the Dumfries and Galloway Carers Centre
