Each month a group of our local ladies get together for different activities – ranging from learning a new skill, to having a speaker in for the evening, to a seasonal knees-up.

Hutton Hall, Bankend.

When? Mostly held monthly on Tuesday evenings between October and May, but check the calendar below for specifics.

Where? Hutton Hall, Bankend.

Who? Ladies of all ages, from throughout Caerlaverock and beyond.

What do I need? Nothing! Just bring yourself, a sense of humour and an interest in meeting people and learning new things.

How much does it cost? It costs £7.50 to join each season, plus the cost per session; that includes the upkeep of the hall, the tea and biscuits, and any expenses incurred for materials or speakers. However, if you’re new and would like to try it out, come along for a session to see what you think before signing up.

What happens? We have a different focus each month, sometimes we have speakers, sometimes games nights, and there is a meal out around Christmas. Of course, there’s always tea, coffee, biscuits and a chance for a blether! We’re often asked how we’re different to the WI – the simple answer is that the WI have rules and regulations to comply with, and each member is required to be a member of the society – so we decided to stay as an independent ladies’ club with a more relaxed approach to getting together and trying new things. The planned agenda for 2024-5 is:

12th October: A game of Beetle and a quiz

12th November: Shirley’s Christmas hands on

4th December: Christmas dinner: Nith Hotel (£28pp)

11th February: Sally: Llanfair Clydogau – A journey towards a war memorial

11th March: Marie: Carry on crafting – from stitch to crochet and other snippets

9th April: Catherine: Tai chi and chair yoga

13th May: Party night (£7 entry)

What do the current club members say?

“I come for the social aspect. It was great for getting to know people when I first moved to the area.”

“It’s a brilliant place to meet other women and have a good moan together!”

“I’ve been coming for years, you get to meet folk and have a good night. There are lots of things of interest with different speakers, it’s amazing what you learn. It’s a good wee social club.”
