In these lovely late Spring days, rolling into Summer, the area is looking beautiful with wildflowers on the roadsides and everybody’s gardens looking better then ever before. On our exercise walks and cycles, having a nosey at these colourful gardens is a favourite activity.

Thank you to those taking care of the flower boxes at the entrances to Glencaple, and the lawnmower men and women all round the Parish!

We’ve also noticed some interested noses poking over the fence at the Allotments, which are getting greener by the day, and hope that soon we’ll be allowed to have visitors, with a bench or seat for those who want to watch the potatoes grow.

One thing we’ve had a couple of messages about is the litter washed up by the side of the river, the annual shore cleanup may prove to be a bit difficult to do as a group this year for various current reasons!

A suggestion was that everybody could go out with a bag or two, in  family groups and take a section and pick up plastic and other rubbish that has accumulated. This way, with a little going into everybody’s bins, it could get taken away instead of just one big skip needed.

It was also suggested that if there are any holiday houses empty, these bins could be used too – anybody with a holiday house that wouldn’t mind their bin being used for that?


We had a message too about extra bedding plants from D&G Council:

“We have over 30k bedding plants ready for planting but we need your help. If you’re part of a community group that could help plant in your town/village get in touch. We’ll get plants to you. supportdg@dumgal.gov.uk or Tel 030 33 33 3000, asking for Community Assets #SupportDG”

Obviously we’d need to find out if anybody is interested, and where possible planting places would be. It could be everybody just does a bit themselves, as an organised group activity isn’t on the cards right now. Some could go in planters, or big pots, or a strip of empty ground somewhere!
