Scottish Natural Heritage Reserve Officer for Caerlaverock, Adam Murphy, has been in touch to see if there are any willing volunteers to help protect the important bog habitat and its Large Heath butterfly colony at the (lovely) linked nature reserve, Kirkconnell Flow (roughly the area of merse on the opposite bank from Kelton, and not far from Mabie Forest on the A701).

Butterfly Conservation’s Bog Squad volunteer project will be holding two work parties in partnership with SNH staff this winter at Kirkconnell Flow near Dumfries. We will be working to remove invasive scrub from the moss to help protect the important bog habitat and its Large Heath butterfly colony. The moss is also home to Green Hairstreak butterflies and a wide variety of other wildlife.  

The work parties will be on Saturday 9th February and Saturday 9th March

Meet at the Flow for 10am and finish by 3pm on each day. Tools and gloves provided. Please bring warm clothes, wellies and lunch.
