An invitation from Stuart Graham and Alison Robertson to the community – many thanks! A chance to see some incredible looking moths in Caerlaverock! Hope to see you there!

Stuart Graham and Alison Robertson will be mothing in Castle Wood this Friday night (23 Aug) and Saturday morning (24 Aug) if anyone from Caerlaverock would like to join us.  These are impromptu events and totally informal – we only had the idea two days ago.

On Friday night we’ll be in the wood from 9.30 pm.  Park at Castle Corner.  Walk out of the car park and turn right.  After the campervan park there’s a telegraph pole, and after that a hardcore foresters’ track leading into the wood.  We’ll be a few metres along that track.  We’ll have a white sheet hanging up with a light against it; with your help, it’ll be a case of catching any moths that arrive, putting them in pots to identify them, and letting them go again.  Stay for as long as you wish, there’s no set end time.

Saturday

At 0900 on Saturday morning we’ll be at the Castle Corner car park picnic tables going through a moth trap we put out on Friday night.  Again, we’d be delighted if anyone from the area would like to join us.  We’d expect to be away by 10.30.

No need to book for either event.  Just turn up with a torch for walking along the road, and don’t forget that midgie repellent.

Having been to a few moth nights, we can highly recommend these sessions! And the forecast is looking good! Something a little bit different for the weekend?
