With many thanks to Alison Robertson for this fab photo and the information:
Lots of us have been seeing the first bumblebees during this week’s warm spell, usually a rapid fly-past with no chance of identification. Here’s one sheltering in a daffodil at the Quay End this afternoon. It’s a Tree Bumblebee (starting at the head end it’s coloured ginger – black – white, though you can’t see the white tail very well in the photo). There was a Hebrew Character moth in another daffodil a few feet away.
Look at that pollen on it’s back!
