Music Input by Feis Rois

We have been learning to play the ukulele. We have been learning new chords like ,d7,g7,f,am,em and dm. We have also been playing ‘don’t clap this one back’. The game works by us not clapping when Will or Michael says: don’t clap, don’t clap this one, and don’t clap this one back. We have also been learning Gaelic songs and learning the numbers to 10 in Gaelic. I have enjoyed it but some of the chords are hard to do. Will has also brought his Accordion in, called ‘Borris’.

Visit to P1/3 by PC Jac by Keira and Lucie

PC Jac visited our class and gave us a PowerPoint about stranger danger and safer strangers.  A safer stranger is a person you don’t know who is safe like a police officer in their uniform.  Stranger danger is when someone asks you to get in their car to go with them to see their pup or cat or offers you sweeties and you don’t know who they are.  When this happens we have to shout out as loud as possible “Stranger Danger” to try and get help and to run away as fast as we can.

PC Jac showed us her uniform and we got to try on handcuffs. She told us how pepper spray works on a criminal to stop them in their tracks. Then we went outside to see inside her police car.  The car had lots of buttons and if we wanted to, we were allowed to press the siren button.  The siren was very very loud!  We learned lots from PC Jac about how to stay safe.

My day at Dumfries High School/C.S.I by Micayla

Recently the P7’s went on a trip to the High School to take part in a C.S.I/crime scene investigation to find out who stole Mr Cubbin’s chocolates!

First we had to find the snot/banana and apple blended D.N.A by putting special chemicals/apple dish soap in the snot/banana and put it in a hot water bath for 30 minutes.

Then we had to check the saliva by pouring the saliva into the pots and putting a special chemical on it. We had the crime scene saliva which turned mustard and had suspect 1- saliva which turned blue, suspect 2 – saliva which turned green and suspect 3 – that turned mustardy so we immediately knew it was suspect 3’s saliva which matched the crime scene’s saliva.

After that the school bell rang so we went for our break and had snack. We soon went back to check the snot and saw the weird cloudy substance rise to the top and show little flakes at the top or the test tube. We then checked the markers and drew a line onto a cool piece of paper that could swallow water in an instant and was really dry and put a special chemical at the bottom of the marked paper and watched as the markers rose to the top of the paper and dried them out in the sun. Once they were dry we looked at the markings and saw which one rose the highest and of course it was suspect 3. After we got a booklet talking about what we did and we needed to fill in all the questions and answers about it.

After that we had our lunch. We played tag and ran about for a while then played football. Eventually we went inside and had to fill more in our sheet that we got. Excitingly we got the mud from the suspect’s shoes and the crime scene’s mud that they left on the window sill when they stepped out the window. Throughout the day we continued to unravel clues, which led us to finding out who the thief was! It was a great day and good fun.

The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by Rosalie and Addison

Mrs McGinley read us the book called The Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch in class. We would give the book 10 out of 10 because it had a very good ending and Mr Grinling got to enjoy his lunch without it being stolen by the bad seagulls. We made lego models of lighthouses, which we lit up with bulbs and batteries. We painted a lighthouse with seagulls flying over it and with Mr and Mrs Grinling’s cottage in it. Primary 3 made a PowerPoint presentation which they shared with the rest of the school at Assembly. Primary 1 and 2 made pictures on the computer of the lighthouse.

Outdoor Maths Skills Session by Mollie and Reid

Mrs McGinley took the class outside for a maths skills session. We were put into small groups. Our first task was to find things in the playground that were circles, squares and triangles. Reid found 33 circles. Then we had to look for five sticks, two stones and three leaves. Then we measured them. We had to make a picture on the ground out of our leaves, sticks, stones and grass and anything else we could find in the playground. Mrs McGinley gave us a hoop each to throw onto the grass and then we looked inside the hoop to see how many flowers, leaves, sticks etc were in the hoop. It was good fun to do maths this way.

Our Garden

In our playground we are making a garden with Miss. McAuley. Miss. McAuley is usually our art teacher but we wanted to make a garden and she offered to help us. In the garden the first thing we did was mark out and dig out places for the plants to go (raised beds).

Then we painted fences to go around the areas that the plants were meant to go. After that we planted plants in the areas and painted wooden stumps that were left from our old trim trail.

We have also dug out an area for some flowers and small logs to go for decoration and got some weeds out.

We are having fun with the garden and making it the best garden we can! It is a continuous project and I can’t wait to see how it progresses!

Boathouse Food Tasting day!

Caerlaverock has been doing a project with the Boathouse. As part of this project we had a food tasting day. There were lots of different things to try and eat like:
Olives
Cactus honey and oat cakes
Chillie oat cakes
Fig
Flat bread
Carrot sticks
Cucumber sticks and dip

Almost everybody liked the cactus honey and oat cakes. It was a delicious day and everyone enjoyed it.
We also went to Mrs. Rogerson’s Hullabaloo to You outside catering premises to do some cooking and prepping as part of our project. It was great to try our hand at making up different dishes!

Drama and Health Day, Play in a Day

Recently me and the other P7 and the only P7 at Brownhall and a few other schools in Dumfries went to the High school to learn about internet safety. We played some fun games as a warm up and then we learnt a fun rap song about internet safety, it was really fun!

After we learnt the song we went outside for a little break then went back in and we were put into groups. After we were all in groups we chose a social media platform and made up a play about how to be safe online.

My social media platform was snapchat and it was about how if you are going to get any social media always ask your parents. I was in a group with my friend which made me a little more confident but I was still extremely scared, due to the fact me and my friend had 2 of the main parts! To go a bit more in depth of our teams little play, it was about a girl who got Snapchat with- out permission and posted something embarrassing, she then got bullied and eventually told her mum and talked about the dangers of social media.

The other groups chose Tick Tock, Instagram and Facebook. Their topics were – don’t meet with people and don’t be mean to people and things like that.

We had lunch then went over to a football pitch in the playground and everyone was spilt into 2 groups – one group did hockey and the other did football. I wanted to do the football but there were too many people in football so I got moved to hockey but it was still fun. After the sports we went back inside and ran through our little plays one more time and the rap song. Then the parents came into the school to watch our plays and I got very nervous and when I saw my mum in the audience I got even more nervous. My play was 2nd last, when it was time for me to do our teams play, I almost dropped my chair when I walked out on stage because for the 2nd scene and I got really nervous yet again. Luckily everything else went smoothly and the day was sadly over. Overall I think everyone there had lots of fun, including me! By Rachael P7.
