The British Cycling National Time Trials:

Thursday 23 June

British Cycling’s UK National Road Championships are to take place in Dumfries and Galloway from the 23 – 26 June 2022. The first competitions within the national Championships are the Time Trials, which are on Thursday 23 June. The Time Trials comprise four separate competitions, which is why the race circuit is required throughout the day on the 23 June. The competitions are Elite Women’s and Women Under 23s and Elite Men’s and Men’s Under 23s.  Dumfries and Galloway Council’s role is to assist British Cycling with the delivery of the National Road Cycling Championships.  At the recent public information meetings held at the Barbour Memorial Hall and Easterbrook Hall on Thursday 9 June we provided details outlining the road closures and what mitigations would be provided to maintain periods of essential access, to reinforce this an information letter providing these details will be circulated to all residents in the Bankend, Caerlaverock and Glencaple areas in the week beginning Monday 13 June.

British Cycling and our Council acknowledge the disruption caused by the National Time Trials taking place on closed roads in your communities. We clearly received your feedback that earlier communication and notification of the event and road closure programme was desired, whilst there were external factors that did influence our timing we apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause and hope that the mitigations being put in place will enable your communities to maintain all essential activity during the day of the Time Trials.  Furthermore, we will ensure your feedback informs the learning for how we support the delivery of any future major sporting events.  On the 23 June we hope to show the global audience watching the event on television and through live streams what a beautiful part of the world we all live in and to promote your community and our region as a destination of choice that can successfully host major sporting events.
