Rick Cowan has left a comment on our ‘Carswell/Cowan local info‘ post from 23rd April 2021.
“Howdy from the across the pond- Australia/New Zealand. I am a Cowan born in NZ and spent my adult life in Australia. I too have been trying to rewind time and recently returned to key towns of my families past – being 1. Carse/North Carse/Carsethorn, Kirkbean & Glencaple.
My interest in this fireside chat is Robina. The Cowan Clans I am looking into include Robina as a part of a large local Cowan family :

NB. I am in the domain of being ‘fairly sure’ I am with the correct families. My direct line I believe to be from James circa 1807 n Mary Cowan. One of his sons John circa 1846 is a direct relative who arrive in Otago NZ circa 1869. Both James & John Cowan were Master Mariners.

With so many Johns’, James’, Marys’ I am chasing my tail a little narrowing down specifics, but amongst the breeding skills of the Cowans’ is one Robina. What’s the chances of same town, same name and no connection. (as an aside there is also females with the name Nicholas). Ill shut up now but Heritage.com has been my best friend along with Census 1841 – 1901 for family connections to date.
Any contact welcome R”
