Festive Bin Collection Arrangements
After discussions with our staff and to allow them to enjoy some well-deserved time off over the Christmas and New Year period, the following changes to refuse and recycling collections will be implemented. These adjustments will provide a balanced approach to support staff to spend and enjoy time with their families while offering additional time on the four days required over the festive period to keep services operating.
Over Christmas and New Year, the following changes to household bin collections will take place:
- No collections on:
- Christmas Day (Thursday 25 December)
- Boxing Day (Friday 26 December)
- New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January)
- Friday 2 January
- Alternative collections:
- Thursday collections (Christmas Day or New Year’s Day) moves to Saturday 27 December and Saturday 3 January (grey bins only).
- Friday collections (Boxing Day or 2 January) moves to Sunday 28 December and Sunday 4 January (grey bins only).
- Food waste will not be collected on these Thursdays or Fridays.
- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday collections for food waste, red, blue and grey-lidded bins will run as normal.
There will be no recycling collections on the above dates – we will only be emptying grey-lidded bins.
80% of our customers will see no change to their collection.
To support household recycling, residents who need extra recycling capacity can order an extra recycling bin or sack free of charge. Alternatively, residents can present additional recycling in a bag or box beside their scheduled blue or red-lidded bin collection.
In addition, our HWRCs will be open over the festive period, and residents can book slots online.
If bad weather or staff sickness affects collections, updates will be posted on our website: https://www.
You can also check your festive collection dates by entering your postcode on our website under “Bins and Recycling”.
As we approach the festive season, your support and understanding is greatly appreciated as we work to balance the delivery of essential waste services with providing our teams the opportunity to celebrate with their families.
Thank you, and wishing you a safe and happy festive season.
