A message from Caerlaverock Natural Nature Reserve Officer Adam Murphy:
Unfortunately the viewpoint failed a recent health and safety inspection and a large amount of the supporting timber has started to rot, due to heavy rain and tidal damage over the past 15 years, sadly we didn’t feel it would survive one more winter. We are currently looking options and funding for a new improved viewpoint as we know this is a very popular spot for many people to view the NNR, particularly at high tides.
Here’s a recent pic of the viewpoint being dismantled during high tide in September.
On a slightly more positive note, some of the timber was is salvable and we have left it in the car park if any local residence wish to take this to re-use for the flower beds or kindling then they are more than welcome but be quick and get it this weekend, as it will all be remove next week.
