Prompted by photos and video sent from Alison Robertson [main photo] and Sue Greig, here are a few more pics to show the early progress made by the Caerlaverock Community Allotmenteers!
Whilst they aren’t looking for any credit, credit where credit’s due – Sue Greig and Rob Wells have been instrumental in setting up the allotments for the community, it’s been many years in the making!

From aged ‘around 2 to around 72’, it’s been a lot of hard work, but very beneficial and enjoyable for all involved, especially during the coronavirus lockdown.

Finding this Clydesdale horseshoe on the first morning digging was a really good omen for Alison (and us all!). It certainly saw the weather being most kind for the very early stages!
The Early Days (April 2020)
It doesn’t look like this anymore!
Things began to take shape as April moved into May!
And as plans took hold, planting began, with hopes of no frost!

There have been reports of cuckoo heard, blackbirds and song thrush finding food for their young, a wheatear (likely on a stopover on it’s way through from Africa to Greenland), oystercatchers, beautiful beetles, and a lovely sense of peace and calm (as well as aching muscles and sore backs!).
Without wishing to tempt fate, we have yet to hear of deer or hare…
We’ve had quite a few folk coming round on their daily walks, or peeking over the hedges, enjoying the changes as time goes on! Remember we’re all still social distancing – but you’re very welcome! We’re hoping that it will be a lovely place for the community to come and sit. Have a look at Sue’s video – and listen to the birdsong!
