With thanks to Lyndsay Henderson for letting us know about her recent scam phone call…
“I have just had a very convincing automated call from BT (sounds very like the ladies voice when you are put on hold.)
My BT internet is going to be disconnected today as someone is trying to access my internet. Please hold to speak with an advisor.
Clearly a scam, they are obviously targeting our phone numbers. Wouldn’t like anyone to be caught out. Withheld number.”
The advice we have been given is to hang up asap.
BT ask for you to let them know about any calls you get of this nature:
“Fraudsters are known to make calls claiming to work for BT, when it’s actually a scam. They may ask you for personal information, want access to your computer and in some cases, ask for your bank details. Don’t be fooled, this is fraud.
We take these cases very seriously. So please let us know if you’ve been the victim of a scam call so we can work to stop fraudsters in their tracks.”
You can do this by calling 0800 800 150
or through their special web page >>here<<
There is also lots of info about scam calls on their web page: www.bt.com/help/home/scams/
