Before the October holidays, we managed to get together a representative from almost all of the organisations who have generously donated to the Caerlaverock Primary School’s ‘trim trail’ fund. We heard at the last CCA meeting the disappointing news that, with changes to the funding process, the school hadn’t been successful with their application for the trail…
Mr Tennant said that, “Before the [summer] holidays we really pushed the boat out to try and raise funds for our new playground initiative, as well as applying for a £10,000 lottery grant. We hosted a ‘Fun Day’ at the school which was a huge success and raised lots of money towards our ‘desired’ end game for our playground!
We were also very generously donated some money from the Hutton Hall Committee (£300), the Barbour Hall Committee (£100), the Parent Council (£800), Sale of Calendars through Caerlaverock Kirk (£500) as well as £500 from the Caerlaverock Community Association.
Unfortunately, however, we were declined our Lottery funded grant which has resulted in us taking stock of where we are with our main aims and objectives – re. the playground. Our hope at the very beginning was to put the lottery grant money together with the money we had raised and been donated, to populate our playground with new and exciting things for the kids, as well as outdoor learning opportunities. Obviously, the rejection of the £10,000 grant has put a bit of a lull in our excitement levels, and has caused us to take stock of what we do with the money. Our end game is still the same, but we are now looking at other opportunities to raise money or gain money through other means.”
He continued:
“I was delighted for there to be a celebration of the local community coming together to support the school – through generous donations! I think it’s a great way to show the school community that everyone is rising up together to help the school.”
Well done everyone!
A portion of the profits of the Caerlaverock Calendar sales is coming to the school!
