Paul Mahoney (his dad was Robert Cowan) is coming to Caerlaverock soon tomorrow!

He told us that he will arrange to be at the

WWT Café on Wednesday 28th March

between 10.30am and 12 noon-ish

If you would like to come along and share your local knowledge and learn about Paul’s research – especially anyone with connections to, knowledge or memories of the Cowans, please join us there.

Paul told us:

“My wife, Barbara and I will be travelling from Longnor, near Shrewsbury in Shropshire to meet up with my newly-found cousin-once-removed… another Barbara, who will be travelling down from Forres, Inverness.
We will be based in Dumfries for 5 nights visiting Cowan birth places as far as Durisdeer and across to Kirkcudbright.
We have been in touch with Barbara since November, finding each other through Ancestry.com and us both taking their DNA tests. Clever stuff this DNA.
Together we have developed a fairly comprehensive knowledge of the Cowan clan, back to 1763.
We are hopeful our forthcoming trip will enable us to understand more of our ancestors lives and their surroundings.
As such, any information your members might be able to enlighten us with will be gratefully accepted! Who knows, we might have unearthed some bits of history that in turn will prove of interest to your community…
I spoke with a Gillian Wyllie at Caerlaverock Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust [WWT] who mentioned her husband’s family had been neighbours to the Cowan’s for four generations!
So much to talk about.
