Thanks to George and Irene McKirdle for sending these photos of a badger in Shearington at 11 O’Clock this morning.
As badgers are nocturnal, if one is out in the daytime, something is up… helpwildlife.co.uk tell us that ‘badgers are strictly nocturnal so one out in daylight or one which can be easily approached is likely to be in trouble.’
They go on to say that you must not attempt to touch or try to pick up a badger – even a baby,
‘Badgers have incredibly powerful jaws and very large, sharp powerful claws. They can and will inflict a serious injury if not handled properly. If you have found a badger in need of help you must seek assistance from an experienced wildlife rescue. Do not attempt to capture the animal yourself.’

Scottish Badgers advise that, ‘A badger, especially a cub, wandering about in daylight needs help so please call the SSPCA on 03000 999 999 as soon as possible’.
