It does indeed look as though the bridge has reopened!

We cycled over it yesterday, and drove in both directions this morning and evening! We won’t take you for granted ever again Bankend Bridgey McBridgeface!

Thursday 3rd August 2017

Thanks to Donna Fleming, Project Co-Ordinator at MCL, here is the latest update:

“Unfortunately we are now running approx 5 days late. The bridge will be opened at the weekend; but will then close on Monday 7th August about 7.30am and will remain closed night and day until road reconstruction work has been completed hopefully on Friday 11th August.”

We will keep you up to date with any further changes.

The Bankend to Annan road – the B725, and main Route 7 Cycle Route which runs from Inverness to Sunderland – will be closed at Bankend for 4 weeks from Wednesday 12th July due to work on the Bridge at Bankend. The bridge will be open at weekends.

In the first week, the road will be open on Monday (10/07) and Tuesday (11/07) but will be closed from Wednesday (12/07) in preparing for the piling plant to be set up.

The second and third weeks the road will be closed during working hours. It should be noted that the road will only be closed to traffic when it is considered unsafe for the public to access due to specific site operation.

The fourth week will be a full road closure.

Cyclists and pedestrians can divert using the bridleway at Merkland. This is an official right of way for pedestrians and cyclists only – it is private land and the council don’t have permission to use it as a diversion.

Official diversion for cars is via B725, B724, A75(T), A780, U808n, A756, B725 and vice versa.

See map below:

Dumfries and Galloway Council state that there will regretfully be a certain amount of inconvenience but every effort will be made to minimise the disruption. They can be contacted on tel: 030 3333 3000.

Previous article:

The Bankend to Annan road – the B725, and main Route 7 Cycle Route which runs from Inverness to Sunderland, will be closed for 4 weeks from from 10th July 2017, as work is starting on the bridge. After speaking to an engineer at the council, the road will first close on

WEDNESDAY 12TH JULY.

No doubt this will cause a fair bit of disruption, as there is not an obvious diversion for both cars and cycles. It is not known as yet whether there will be an official signposted diversion in place. The bridleway at Merkland is an official right of way for pedestrians and cyclists only. This is private land and the council don’t have permission to use it as a diversion. Official diversion for cars coming soon…
