Dumfries and Galloway Council have issued the following information and reminder:
If your child will be five on or before the 28 February 2017 you must register for them to start school at their catchment primary school.
Parents are reminded of their right to retain their child at home until the enrolment date following their fifth birthday.
What is the enrolment date?
Enrolment of pupils into P1 will take place on Tuesday, 12 January and Wednesday, 13 January 2016 between 9.00 am and 3.30 pm on either day.
How do I find my catchment school?
You can use the ‘Find My Nearest’ tool to find your catchment school. Once you’ve entered details for your home you will see the name of your nearest school with a link back to the school information.
What do I need to bring with me when I enrol my child?
When visiting the school you will need to take your child’s birth certificate. Also your latest Council Tax bill or a recent utility bill as proof that you live permanently at your address.
What happens if I miss the enrolment date?
Enrolment on the appropriate date is particularly important in light of the legislation about parents’ choice of school to be attended.
If you miss the enrolment date you should contact your catchment school at the earliest opportunity to make the necessary arrangements. Please be aware that if this is after 15 March, you may lose any priority you had.
