Joe Bilous, Secretary of the Nith Inshore Rescue, sent us an update from the past month at NIR:
Despite having no callouts in the past month it has still been a busy time for Nith Inshore Rescue. Training for the crew has been progressing well, and in March we welcomed Rab, an employee from Russell Tiles, onto the lifeboat as a ‘crew member for a day’ as they have kindly selected us as one of their charities of the year! Rab came for a tour of the Lifeboat Station and had a run in both our boats on the River Nith in bitterly cold and windy conditions giving him a good feel for some of the weather we operate in. Russell Tiles will be undertaking various fund raising activities during the year to help us with a much needed refit of our Land Rover, which is a vital part of our operation, giving us the ability to respond to inland emergencies, maintain communications and transport vital equipment to callouts.
We recently attended the Kingholm Quay fun day and were invited to a Race Night organised by the Masons of St Micheals Kilwinning No. 63 where we received a fantastic donation of £500 from their raffle.
The recent Shore Clean was a huge success, thanks to everyone who attended and helped to remove a massive amount of litter from our shoreline. Thanks especially to Chris for organising the skip at the Lifeboat Station, and to Oakbank Waste Management Ltd for donating it.
Landscaping of the area around the Lifeboat Station is due to begin again on Monday 16th April, weather permitting. The gabion baskets have arrived and will be the first part of the operation, being sited around the edge closest to the river and filled with stone. Hopefully with some good weather forecast the contractors can progress quickly.
Four of our crew have made the brave decision to take part in the upcoming Tough Mudder event at Drumlanrig. We will keep you updated on their progress as their training gets underway!
Thank you for keeping us posted Joe – busy times indeed!
We took a few pics of the landscaping work started today:
