Thanks to Joe Bilous for this update:
Just like Glastonbury Festival, Nith Rescue are having a year out from their annual Open Day. The Trustee Committee previously agreed that we would take a break this year to allow some rest. This is mainly due to the sheer amount of work and business we have been involved with recently including the new extension, works due to upgrade the Land Rover, a number of key upcoming training requirements for crew, the usual organiser changing role in his day job and a real concern about the work/Lifeboat/family life balance we all face. This will also give the soon to be completed grass area respite for a year to host the 2019 open day.
The open days have become a big day for the community, for those further afield and our partner agencies which is another key reason we have carefully thought out and planned how the grass area could be best developed to maximise space for this great annual event for the Community but without encroaching on the footpath. Last year saw everything from a pipe band to the Coastguard Helicopter as well as the opening ceremony which was a great event well supported by the people of Caerlaverock. We are sorry that this will come as a disappointment to many in the community however, there may be some smaller events to look forward to during 2018, and the open day will be back bigger and better in 2019!
