The Standard photographer arrived to take official photographs of the official opening of Mary and Friends convenience store on Glencaple Quay this morning. We arrived and took an unofficial photo of the official photographer taking a photo!

Lady Mary Herries and Councillor Jack Groom came to formally open the shop, now that Jim and Ann McLatchie are back. Jack Groom described the shop as the ‘heart of the village’, and stressed ‘long may it continue, lets hope that its not too long before we start refurbishing next door’

[the Tearoom and Shop].

Lady Mary observed that “everybody in Glencaple [must] eat cornflakes”!

It really is up to us to ensure the shop remains at the heart of the village by using it regularly, whether it’s for your daily paper and a packet of biscuits, a loaf of bread and a selection of vegetables or your cornflakes and a pint of milk.

Lady Mary thanked Jack Groom for coming along, to which he responded ‘Always a pleasure, I love this area’.

She went on to thank Douglas Anderson, chairperson of Caerlaverock Community Association, for everything he has done, and thanked the hard working staff.

Here are a few more photos of everyone at the opening.
