Caerlaverock Community Association along with Caerlaverock Estate and shop staff have pulled out all the stops to bring the community a much needed shop following the disastrous fire just 3 weeks ago on the 21st September 2016 at the Caerlaverock Tea Room and Shop.
Unfortunately, the tearoom has sustained major damage and will have to go through major reconstruction, perhaps taking a year to complete.
A new modular ‘portacabin’ type building has been sited on the Quay, behind the toilet block, and away from the damaged tearoom in order that the repair work can be carried out without hindrance.
‘Mary & Friends Convenience Store’
The shop will open on Saturday 8th October at 8.30am to offer basic provisions including grocery items, papers, bread, toiletries and fresh veg to start with, and aim to increase the selection of stock, all with the great service you have been accustomed to. The shop can only accept cash payment at this early stage.
As you probably realise, more village shops throughout the country are closing than opening, so please, please support it!
Initial Opening Hours
8.30am – 4.30pm
7 days a week
Please take this opportunity to support and invest in your local shop – it is a vital resource which needs your input – make it a part of your daily routine to pop in and spend in the community, rather than bolstering the national corporations.
Tina and Shirley are excited to be opening up again, they think it’s “absolutely brilliant…and a big thank you to Douglas!”
A big thanks also to everyone who has offered their assistance and helped out during this difficult period.
Peter Haining Kitchens have kindly donated the work station/ counter and sink unit.
Thanks also to other contractors:
Jock Anderson contractors who fitted the pads under the portacabin to ensure it’s level.
Concept Cabins in Derbyshire – who came on Tuesday. They were very helpful.
John Anderson for all the joinery work, including installing a ramp for easy access.
Robert Fair of Fair Secure who installed the alarm system and CCTV
Colin Johnstone who has done all the electrics
George Tingle at Grandpa’s Toolbox who has done the plumbing
All trades have coordinated very well.
The official opening will be on Monday 24th October at 11am, opened by Councillor Jack Groom. We hope that Lady Mary will also be here.
