Defibrillators
Signs have been put in place to highlight the defib. machines in the phone boxes in Bankend and at Glencaple Quay.
CCTV cameras have been purchased and are now in place as a theft deterrent.
A very successful open training session with around 30 participants. Names being sought for the notices.
The Boathouse manager, Alanna Rogerson will arrange for The Boathouse staff to be trained in using them.
Motorhomes
A compromise has been reached with 6 parking spaces allocated for motorhome use at the Quay End, the rest of the space used for car parking. In exchange, the Estate have offered the old Castle Corner campsite as an overflow, transferring donations from there to the CCA. The Estate will be responsible for maintenance there. CCA to provide the money box. A paypal account for the CCA has also been set up for donations.
Speed limit from Kelton to Kelton Bank
Rona Carson of Kelton Bank informed us that council workers have been out measuring up for solar speed signs on either side of the bend at Kelton Bank.
Wellington Street Parking
Councillor Elaine Murray let us know that ‘a roads officer carried out an inspection on 12th Jan and observed a number of vehicles parked along both sides, however considered that sufficient width for vehicles to get through and pass each other on a stop / go basis. He/she also observed wheel tracks on the grassed area indicating that it was being used as a turning area. Although Wellington Street is a council adopted road, the south end, including the garages and the grass/ hard standing area, are owned and maintained by Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership which owns one property. DGHP was contacted regarding whether they would consider providing additional parking in this area but responded stating that they have no plans, budget or responsibility to provide further parking. She was also informed that emergency vehicles require a minimum width of approx 3m and if access to residential properties is being blocked, Police Scotland should be informed.’
When the turning circle is filled up with vehicles, it can’t be used. Douglas Anderson has asked residents if they want alterations, but none of them did. If changes were to be made, it would have to be with backing of residents.
The Boathouse
Alanna Rogerson offered her support to the community.
Informal meeting on Sunday 4th March, 4pm – 6pm with Q/A at 5pm, at Eriff in Glencaple, seeking community viewpoint on opening hours etc.
Plans will evolve and change, initial thoughts are to open the shop at 8am and the café at 10am.
Alanna stressed that the café and restaurant will be supporting the shop which has not been viable; there are financial implications to opening longer hours, so it has to be worthwhile. We must ‘use it or lose it’, it needs for everyone to buy more than just a paper and a pint of milk – buy one more thing.
There may be a second recruitment day.
Local produce and ingredients will be used wherever possible (local butter!).
Nith Inshore Rescue Groundworks
There have been concerns about the unsightly area and mound. Work will continue to improve the area as soon as the weather improves.
Request to Help Neighbours
Douglas Anderson has asked everybody to look out for their elderly/ infirm neighbours, particularly in this weather – coal and logs/ shopping etc. Just check that they are okay.
Burns Night
Susan Gilbert stated it was a great success – excellent food, staff amazing, a brilliant evening, thoroughly recommended.
