Tom Brown has been rooting around in his archives and has sent us this fascinating photo.
Taken in July 1961, it shows Mr Langley Roberts (Caerlaverock NNR) and a Mr WJ Smith: both with NCC.
They are surveying the north fence opposite Kirkconnel Lea, in Kenneth Bank.
What is very noticeable is the amount of merse in front of the house. Erosion has seen it reduce to only a stones throw from the road today.
If you stop and look now, you can see accretion starting and new primary merse beginning to appear, Glasswort or Samphire being a good indicator.
Tom says, “Having lived at Kenneth Bank for 34 yrs we have seen plenty of erosion and now regeneration. It’s great to see daily how the tide and river allows this to occur.”
Thank you Tom!
