Main picture: Robb decendents reunited 25th February 2018. Back row Susan, John and Elizabeth, front row Ann

Many thanks to John Roberts who sent us this information and photos from his research into the history of his family in Caerlaverock:

John Roberts and Susan Swann are the great grandchildren of James Robb (1839-1898), former schoolteacher of Glencaple School and local Registrar, Elizabeth (Liz) Roberts is his great great granddaughter.

After a lot of research via ancestry.co.uk, Facebook and the Internet, they found each other and by a strange coincidence Susan and her family live in Shakespeare’s Stratford-Upon-Avon just half an hour up the road from Elizabeth in Royal Leamington Spa!

Together with John’s wife Ann they had an amazing get together for the first time in Stratford-upon-Avon where many memories of the Robb family, Glencaple and their origins were shared.

Susan, thanks to her mother’s interest and detailed records, had a wonderful collection of family photographs including James Robb and his wife Mary Ann Taylor Hunter Robb (below).

Of particular interest were letters sent from Cecil Robb, James’ youngest son, who had emigrated to Victoria, Australia, to his niece Betty Wotherspoon, daughter of Jane Millar Robb, during the period 1937-1945, highlighting different ways of life between Australia and the UK, yet some similarities such as gardening and coping during WW2 but most importantly keeping in touch during difficult times.

John and Ann, having moved from Liverpool, where James’ eldest son Capt John Robb lived with his wife Elizabeth Robb nee Stott, live in Burley-in-Wharfedale, where they have done for the last 35 years

We are all very pleased to share this with the Caerlaverock Community and hope it is of interest, we certainly enjoy the articles on the website and Facebook, bringing back many happy memories but at the same time keeping up with the latest news

Regards,

John
