Solway Firth Partnership have been in touch. They asking people to tell them about local place names for their Solway Coastwise project. They would like to hear from local folk, including haaf netters and wildfowlers to discover names they use. Solway Coastwise is a project that is discovering coastal place names and the stories behind them.

The project aims to give everyone in local coastal communities the opportunity to communicate their passion for their coast, bringing the cultural heritage of our fantastic landscape alive.

They describe it as ‘facilitating the sharing of names for local places, both traditional and more modern and the oral history behind them’ and look forward to the prospect of finding out more about the fascinating array of local names, traditions, environment, histories and relationships between communities and the sea.
