A wee ‘heads up’ about the footbridge on the riverside path near Kelton.

D & G Council Countryside Access Officer, Richard Masters and their Core Path engineer have been out to look at the collapsing bridge on the Nith path near to Kelton and regret to let us know that this won’t be a ‘quick fix’!

They will contact the Core Path contractor to see what the best solution will be; they may have to look into dismantling it and repositioning it where they can find more stable ground.

For now, the bridge has been taped off and closed it as it is probably not safe to use. They have also put signs up closing the path from its junction south of Glencaple with Core Path 78, so hopefully people won’t walk all the way down to find it then have to return.

They will keep us updated on any progress over the next few months.

Does anyone with local walking knowledge know of an alternative route/ nearest crossing point that we can use? Please get in touch via Facebook or at caerlaverock@gmail.com

It would be an awful shame if we couldn’t continue to walk from Glencaple up to Dumfries/ vice versa with the coming of the good weather/ better walking conditions!
