Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve (NNR) have arranged, as part of their 60th Anniversay celebrations, 2 wild food foraging walks with Mark Williams of Galloway Wild Foods!

The walks start at 11am and 2.30pm on 15th of July 2017, and must be booked in advance as numbers are limited.

Walks are an hour and a half long, and you can expect to explore the wild larder of the salt marsh, maritime hedgerows and forests.

There will also be a linked cookery demonstration between 1pm and 2pm.

 

Also on at the Barbour Hall, and around Glencaple on the 15th July. These activities are free of charge:

  • Scottish Natural Heritage – come and meet the reserve team; find out about the history of the national nature reserve and the local community; plenty of animal crafts for the kids to make. 

  • Scotlands’ Natural Larder – pop up kitchen – demonstrating wild food cooking, and giving you a taste of wildfowl, fish, venison and local plants and flowers. 

  • Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust – meet the team, find out more about the centre which is just a few miles down the road, the kids can get stuck into making clay fossils. 

  • Get inside a Caravan Camera Obscura and walk around in a light box – the artist Kenny Bean will show you how to look at your surroundings in a completely new way. 

  • Watch a Haaf net demo (set up and knitting of nets) and a punt gun boat display
  • Find out about the Coastwise name and audio recording project with Solway Firth Partnership
  • See the wonderful wildlife paintings by Keith Brown
  • Watch a demo of fly tying by David Gilbert; pick up your local ‘catch and release’ guide

And visit the Nith Inshore Rescue lifeboat station, a short walk down to the river, who are opening their doors for us between 12 – 
3pm!
