Paul Mahoney, who visited Caerlaverock recently with his wife Barbara and cousin, also Barbara asks if anyone can assist him with the following locations:
“On our visit we tried to find actual addresses or at least the roads or farms our ancestors lived at. Below are Cowan’s from the 1851 Census.
Can anyone help pinpoint where these addresses are or were?”
1. Bankend – Church Street
Agness, Janet, John, Nicholas, Robina and father Nicholas Cowan
2. Crossrigg Farm – Blackshaw
David Cowan
3. Shearington
William, Thomas
Father James Cowan and mother Mary Cowan
4. Glencaple Village
Jessie and Joseph Cowan
[And for info – Margaret Cowan, wife of Joseph had been placed and died in The Chrichton Lunatic Asylum. We have her medical records which make very sad reading.]
