Lady Clare told us that ‘the bookshelves in The Boathouse have been planned as a community ‘service’ and are there to be used’.
Whilst we appreciate it isn’t the same as a mobile library, The ‘Lady Mary Library’ will work well for the community if everyone who wants to take a book to read brings a book they enjoyed reading (rather than just any old book!) as a ‘swap’.
The more people who use the bookshelves in this way the more the books will rotate and refresh.
Got a few moments to spare? What could be better than a wee sit down in the snug with a cuppa where you can dip in and out of the books already there!
The Boathouse community page tells us that “the library is free to use and works in the following way:
- bring a book (which you loved reading but are now ready to part with)
- take a book (that you like the look of and would like to read at home)
All we ask is that the ‘book swap’ nature of the library be respected so that the shelves are not depleted.”
Please do spread the word about this tiny library!
With the removal of the mobile library service from Glencaple in September 2018, we hope this will go some way to bringing access to books to those within the community who love reading as much as we do!
