WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre near Dumfries will be the venue for Autumnwatch 2015, the BBC has announced.

AutumnwatchMalcolm2webCaerlaverock Wetland Centre is on the marshy banks of the Solway Firth, the overwintering home for the entire population of 30,000 Svalbard barnacle geese. It’s also one of only two places in the UK where you can find a tiny three-eyed prehistoric animal called a tadpole shrimp, or a triops, which is one of the oldest species in the world.

AutumnwatchMalcolm1webThe 1500 acre wetland site is managed by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT). The saltmarsh and freshwater wetlands surround an old farm, now a cafe and visitor centre, where badgers feed outside the windows most nights. It’s in the shadow of Criffel, the highest hill in the area at 570m.

Caerlaverock Wetland Centre Manager Brian Morrell said:

Caerlaverock's shop and café, it'll be the place to hang out with Chris, Michaela and Martin.

“We’re really excited to welcome Autumnwatch, especially at such a special time of year. We’ll have thousands of geese and swans arriving from the arctic to fill our wetland with noise and colour.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming all the presenters and production staff. We’re as curious as they are about what they might find – you’ll just have to tune in to find out!”

Autumnwatch will air on BBC2 the week commencing Monday 2nd November, as well as online and on the red button.
