Graham Bates emailed us to ask for any help with his family research back on 29th May 2018:

“From the middle of the 19th century, my forebears have been located in Cheshire (via Liverpool).

However, research reveals that JOHN BARRON, who reached the rank of sergeant in the local police force, gave his place of birth as CAERLAVEROCK.

He was born approx. 1815-1825, and I think his father was George.

I would appreciate any information held in village/kirk records.

Over a year later, we heard from Mike Fletcher who happened upon this post! 
Here is the information he has sent:

“It has been a bit difficult to find anything definite about John Barron a protestant born 1822 / 1823.
If our research is right he may have been married twice his first wife was Helen (no maiden name) also born somewhere in Scotland!
Our research suggests he had a brother William Barron also a constable who appears to be staying in Liverpool at the same address. 
Helen and John ‘s first child John or jno was also born in Scotland in1847,
John’s father George is listed as a Sawyer on the marriage certificate and John as a cabinet maker although we know John was a constable at that time so he may have been quoting his trade rather than his job.“
We are so please that Mike has been able to help out! It also shows the importance of having this kind of information online, where it can be found at a later date.
