We’ve had a message from the ever-vigilant Sergeant Graeme Stitt from the Community Policing Unit for Police Scotland, letting us know about an increase in doorstep crime and online/phone fraud.
Can you please raise awareness throughout your communities regarding an increase in the following crimes.
- Door step crime / Bogus Workmen – Please do not accept work from workmen / doorstep salesmen turning up unannounced at your door.
- Phone / Internet Fraud – Do not pass out bank details to anyone phoning you pertaining to be from Banks, Microsoft, Fraud Squad, etc.
If suspicious then please contact Police at the time.
If anyone wishes a security survey or further crime prevention advice then please contact us via this email address: NithsdaleCPT@Scotland.pnn.police.uk
Many thanks,
Graeme
On a personal note, we’ve become aware in particular of scams popping up on computers, supposedly telling people they have viruses, or some other problem, and the scammers trying to get money or credit card details to fix. Don’t give any details out – these things are invariably a scam and should not be engaged with. If in doubt consult a geeky member of your family to help (everybody has one).
