We are pleased to welcome to the National Nature Reserve (NNR) team Adam Murphy, our new Reserve Officer who’ll be working on Caerlaverock and Kirkconnell Flow. Adam is returning to the region having previously been involved with WWT Washington reserve in north east England and the Scottish Wildlife Trust in Dumfries and Galloway.
“I am hoping I will have the opportunity to meet many of you over the next wee while on the reserves or the wider Nith Estuary. If you see me out and about on either of the reserves this winter please do come and say hello”.
In addition to our new starter, we are looking further to the future at Caerlaverock NNR, as we are currently in the process of writing our new 10 years reserve management plan. You will all be given an opportunity to comment on this before it gets finalised. This will come together when we run a public consultation early in the new year. So watch this space!
If you visit Caerlaverock NNR this festive period you will also notice some changes on the ground too. Starting in December we will be renewing a stretch of boardwalk and relocating the bird hide in the reedbed by the Hollands.
All work will be undertaken by local contractors and will mostly be done by hand. These improvement works should be completed early 2016 (weather and tides permitting).
Although all the usual routes to the reserve will be open as normal, access to the Flooders by the Hollands may be disrupted from time to time during the work period. So please follow the temporary signage Adam will put on site.
